Principal's Message

Principal’s Message

Welcome to the Ottawa Technical Secondary School website. Our website has important information for students and their families including announcements, a calendar of events, and links to resources to support learning and well-being.  There are many useful links that the District has included on our website.

We would like to acknowledge that the land on which we gather and learn is the traditional, unceded, and unsurrendered territory of the Algonquin Anishnaabeg People. It is our  hope that as we learn together, we  honour and respect the generations of Algonquin People who have been the stewards of this land.  We are fortunate to work with Jasmine Doig who is the Indigenous Graduation Coach for OTSS.  Jasmine has extensive experience working in the community and is dedicated to supporting students in their learning.

We look forward to welcoming students back to school in person on September 9th.  We are fortunate at OTSS to have small class sizes (maximum of 17 students), large classrooms, wide halls and an excellent ventilation system.

We feel  honoured and privileged to serve students and families at Ottawa Technical Secondary School.  Our school offers so many rich learning opportunities and pathways for students with a focus on experiential education as well as exploring possible authentic opportunities for students including Co-op and OYAP. As a Trades and Technology School, students can pursue classes in  Automotive, Construction, Cosmetology, Hospitality (Baking and Food Services),  Manufacturing & Welding, Masonry,  Information Technology (including Computers, Graphics and Photography)  As new students register at OTSS, we look forward to meeting them and getting to know them, their families, and the community.

The Pandemic has created challenging times for students, families and the community.  As a school community we are committed to supporting all students.  Student well being and success is a priority and we want to do everything we can to work together to support students.

As part of our commitment to equity and inclusion, we are one of the first schools in the OCDSB to be offering an Anti-Racism and Oppression course this year.  We are committed to learning more about all of our students - their strengths and ways we can better support their learning - with humility and gratitude.

Teachers will be contacting families soon to welcome students back to school.  Please do not hesitate to reach out to your children’s teachers, student services, or the administration at any time. Working collaboratively with parents/guardians is critical to student success.
