Applying to OTSS - Skilled Trades & Tech Program

Ottawa Technical Secondary School offers a full pathway diploma program with elective credits available in the areas of technology and the skilled trades. The OTSS technology and skilled trades program may be of interest to students with a passion for building, designing, engineering, and creating, and who aspire to careers in the following areas:
Students may choose to participate in experiential learning including co-operative education and Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) opportunities. OTSS supports students with a wide range of strengths and talents as they prepare for university, college, apprenticeship, or skilled trades training opportunities.

  • Multiple program pathways incorporating technology and skilled trades opportunities;
  • A strength-based approach that focuses on well-being and achievement for all students;
  • Experiential and differentiated learning experiences in all classes, including compulsory credit classes;
  • Local industry partnerships yielding Co-op, OYAP, and Specialist High Skills Major opportunities.
  • Like all secondary schools in the OCDSB, OTSS offers destreamed grade 9 and 10 programming; OTSS has pathways for students of all cognitive abilities and academic intentions.
  • Award-winning technology and skilled trades educators with recent and relevant industry experience.
Submitting Expressions of Interest
  • With the support of the guardian or parent, staff at the current school complete the OTSS Expression of Interest Form with students who have a strong interest in technology and the skilled trades
  • The expression of interest is reviewed by OTSS Student Services and Administration to ensure that the OTSS technology and skilled trades credit program is suitable for the student in question.  Follow-up conversations are essential.  
  • Registration and transition planning are then coordinated by the OTSS team.
Note:  Students not currently enrolled in an OCDSB school must enroll at their community school before expressing interest in OTSS.
